Deer Sexing and Antler Deveopment
Deer sexing is all in the fall rut. Male Deer ( Buck or stag) breed with the females (doe or hind). and make offspring. Males develop a a bone-like substance called antlers. The young buck develop their antlers that start off as "buttons or knots" to be known as the Button Buck. As there antlers grow, they will get their antlers, but they will be fairly small. Males with bigger muscle and bigger antlers, will usually get the "top quality" Doe for breading because they are the dominant Buck. No matter if the Buck is dominant or not, each buck sheds their antlers, while other animals with horns, which are permanent structures. These species are usually apart from each other year round until it is time for the breading season.
